PROGRAM DIRECTOR/ ARTS AT MICHIGAN
ASSISTANT DIRECTOR/ OFFICE OF NEW STUDENT PROGRAMS
I am proud and excited to be the Program Director for Arts at Michigan, after six years helping develop and implement the programs as Program Specialist. My work with Arts at Michigan has offered great opportunities for me to support students in experiencing, understanding, and creating art. I stand proudly behind Arts at Michigan's philosophy 'that the arts are essential to shaping our individual and collective identities and understanding what it means to be a citizen of a diverse multi-cultural society.'
I earned my BFA from University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign, and my MFA from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, both in Painting. I helped coordinate programs and exhibitions at Pratt Institute and The Cooper Union in New York, and at Manchester Craftsmen’s Guild in Pittsburgh. As and artist, curator and arts professional, the arts have been a driving force in my career, and I’m really excited to be working in a position that gives me new opportunities each day to share that passion. I’m a museum lover and have been known to travel hours on a bus just to visit one I’ve never seen. I love going to arts events with my wife and son and seeing offbeat film and theatre productions. I have a peculiar passion for music from 1994, a not–so–peculiar passion for French food and all types of cheese. And I’m a serious New York Yankees fan.
As the new Program Specialist of Arts at Michigan I look forward to creating meaningful experiences surrounding the arts for students at the University of Michigan!
I studied arts education at Aquinas College where I earned by Bachelor’s Degree and teaching certificate. After gaining experience working in early, elementary and secondary education I continued my education with a Master’s Degree in art administration and nonprofit management at Eastern Michigan University. As the Program and Communications Manager at both The Arts Alliance and Artrain, Inc. I learned about and developed connections with many of the arts and cultural organizations in Washtenaw County. As a Co-organizer of DIYpsi, an indie art fair in Ypsilanti, I have supported a large number of individual artists and their businesses in Southeast Michigan and beyond. Building strong connections between the arts and my community is extremely important to me. I’m thrilled to be able to apply that passion to the community of U-M students!
I am a crafter at heart and there’s a great chance that if you attend an indie art fair in Southeast Michigan you will see me there working, shopping or volunteering.
I am an undergraduate in the College of LS&A planning on majoring in Computer Science. In my free time I like to keep busy - my hobbies include running, hiking, kayaking, snowboarding, learning instruments, and video game development - which often results in some very late nights in the library where I make sure I’m getting all of my homework completed. My goal at Michigan is to learn as much as possible during my time here, which is why I’m so happy working for Arts at Michigan. I get to further my own web development abilities while learning more about the arts, and help share all of the excellent activities and opportunities we have available here!
I am a senior in the School of Art & Design, studying graphic design and fiber arts. The arts have always been an important part of my life, and I try to explore as much as I can. It's amazing to see the amount of arts opportunities available at University of Michigan and in Ann Arbor. Even after graduating, I hope to continue making work that inspires others and celebrates the arts.
I am a junior in the School of Art & Design, concentrating in graphic design and illustration. The arts are a huge part of my life both in and out of the classroom. It’s truly amazing to be in a place with so many opportunities to connect with them. In addition to the visual arts I love music and Ann Arbor’s vibrant local scene. After graduation I want to do good work for good people and causes, where ever that may be and whatever that may entail.
I'm a junior at U-M majoring in Data Science, which is a combination of computer science, statistics, and mathematics. The arts have always been a continuous force in my life...I can't imagine existence without the meaning that it creates. Lately, I've been very interested in the melange of art and science. As modern society is becoming more infused with technology, so is art which has yielded new genres and possibilities.
