Ultimately, students attend college to prepare for real-world experiences. As an entity of education, it is the university¢ï¿½ï¿½s responsibility to equip students with the skills necessary for success beyond graduation. A challenge in doing so is that multiple choice tests and essays may not perfectly align with the skillsets that students will be expected to utilize in their professional careers. Thus, it is in the interests of both the university and the student body to replicate professional experiences as a vital component of education. Many University of Michigan students are interested in a career in the music business. The expanding curriculum of music business courses and the recent development of the EXCEL program are a testament to this. Hail Records will serve these students by providing them with a real-world workshop in the music business. Students will have the opportunity to record, engineer, master, and market real music, produced by their peers. In addition, the label will have the unique capacity to unify the various University of Michigan educational departments. For example, students in the Law School could handle licensing while working with students in the Ross School of Business in charge of marketing. To incentivize students to help run the label, students will be rewarded with course credit for their respective roles.
