Calligraphy Club at Michigan

About

The Calligraphy Club at Michigan is focused on introducing members to the massive and varied history of different calligraphic styles throughout the world. The main direction will be towards both Asian (primarily Japanese, Chinese, and Korean) and Western (latin alphabet scripts and styles). There will also be study of Hebrew and Arabic calligraphic styles depending on interest, since they can be executed for the most part with the same broad-edge nibs and tools used in other more common English scripts. Lessons will be taught for beginners, and the goal will be to teach the connection between calligraphic tradition and the formation of letters (even inspiring the design and proportion of most printing and typing scripts online today), as well as have members grow in skill and have an artistic ability that can be deeply fulfilling and appreciated by others who view it.
