{"id":10236,"date":"2019-02-06T12:17:00","date_gmt":"2019-02-06T16:17:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/artsatmichigan.umich.edu\/ink\/?p=10236"},"modified":"2019-02-06T12:17:00","modified_gmt":"2019-02-06T16:17:00","slug":"hamilton-in-michigan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/artsatmichigan.umich.edu\/ink\/2019\/02\/06\/hamilton-in-michigan\/","title":{"rendered":"Hamilton in Michigan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The hit Broadway musical \u201cHamilton\u201d is finally coming to Michigan after being on Broadway since 2016. \u00a0The show will be playing in three different theaters across the state throughout the 2019-2020 season.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Broadway show \u201cHamilton\u201d seemed to become a new classic from the moment it started in April 2016. \u00a0The writer, star, and producer Lin Manuel Miranda shot to stardom because of this show. He played Hamilton during its first run on Broadway and will occasionally come back and play him again for special performances. \u00a0An example of this is during Hamilton&#8217;s Puerto Rican show to raise money for people in Puerto Rico who are still affected by the hurricane.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The show seemed to be so popular that was even hard for celebrities to get tickets. \u00a0There seemed to be constant stream of pictures of different celebrities watching Hamilton each night. \u00a0It may not be surprising then to find out that tickets were about $500 a person to go see the show. Luckily the tickets for the three shows in Michigan are a little more manageable.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hamilton\u2019s first stop after Broadway was Chicago, where tickets were still expensive and hard to get your hands on. \u00a0I was lucky enough to go to a performance and see Hamilton in Chicago. They stayed in Chicago for several months before getting ready to tour elsewhere. \u00a0Hamilton\u2019s show in Puerto Rico was the start of their tour that will be all over the United States for the 2019-2020 season.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One cast member on this touring company is University of Michigan alumni, Simon Longnight. \u00a0He graduated from the University of Michigan in 2018, and is playing <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lafayette\/Thomas Jefferson on the tour.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Broadway hit musical \u201cHamilton\u201d is coming to Detroit, Grand Rapids, and the Wharton Center within the next year. \u00a0Tickets for the Detroit showings have already gone on sale!<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The hit Broadway musical \u201cHamilton\u201d is finally coming to Michigan after being on Broadway since 2016. \u00a0The show will be playing in three different theaters across the state throughout the 2019-2020 season.
