too sudden.<\/span><\/p>\n

they are unprepared, their hoods from their hoodies<\/span><\/p>\n

are all they have, their<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0umbrellas are forgotten at home, they are<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0unfamiliar with michigan weather,<\/span><\/p>\n

where the saying goes\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cif you don\u2019t like the weather,<\/span><\/p>\n

wait ten minutes.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

they realize this soon but<\/span><\/p>\n

not soon enough.<\/span><\/p>\n

the water that the drain rejected has seeped<\/span><\/p>\n

into their converse, their nike air force ones, their checkered vans,<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0cleaning the once-white soles but\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

leaving them damp,<\/span><\/p>\n

uncomfortable.<\/span><\/p>\n

their solution for this is coffee\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

like it is for many of their problems,<\/span><\/p>\n

cold, iced tea, contrasting with the weather,<\/span><\/p>\n

whisked in their hands, flurrying away.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

the sidewalks get their dose of cleaning, from\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

shoes that walk miles upon it every day,<\/span><\/p>\n

the leaves lose their crunch, and instead<\/span><\/p>\n

shine brightly on the pavement,<\/span><\/p>\n

like walking on rainbow road<\/span><\/p>\n

from mario kart.<\/span><\/p>\n

a topic of conversation,<\/span><\/p>\n

rain is.<\/span><\/p>\n

all day long,\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

coats are thrown off, umbrellas shaken at doorsteps,\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

they say \u201cit\u2019s pouring out there!\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

and they have this same conversation every time it rains,<\/span><\/p>\n

their shoes always get wet,\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

they always get coffee,<\/span><\/p>\n

they always walk on rainbow road,<\/span><\/p>\n

they go through this every time it rains,<\/span><\/p>\n

and yet their love for it\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
