Like the Statue of Liberty, the library called,<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cGive me your tired, give me your weary\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A lighthouse, it gleamed in the distance.<\/span><\/p>\n

It was a sanctuary,\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Their sanctuary,<\/span><\/p>\n

Home to chairs that were\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Uncomfortable but they had stopped minding<\/span><\/p>\n

Various Tupperware containers being opened\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Different cuisines fusing into one,<\/span><\/p>\n

At the same time.<\/span><\/p>\n

It was a good fusion.<\/span><\/p>\n

Studying, they tried, eventually, the subjects would\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Merge into one, math and english and science,\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

And so many others, the majors were endless,<\/span><\/p>\n

At this point, though, they were one and all the same.<\/span><\/p>\n

They tried to force themselves awake,<\/span><\/p>\n

Taking breaks, they<\/span><\/p>\n

Watched the football on the television,<\/span><\/p>\n

But they had watched a hundred games like this one,<\/span><\/p>\n

And it had yet to become different.<\/span><\/p>\n

Besides, their mind had entered a dream-like state,<\/span><\/p>\n

Half-asleep, they ate their dinner.<\/span><\/p>\n

It was impersonal, cooked by someone they didn\u2019t know,<\/span><\/p>\n

Not to say it wasn\u2019t good,\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Because it was,\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

But they missed home, a little bit.<\/span><\/p>\n

Eventually, they couldn\u2019t resist the pull of gravity,<\/span><\/p>\n

They laid their heads on their books<\/span><\/p>\n

And their eyes begin to flutter<\/span><\/p>\n

Still, they tried to keep awake, realizing that they had been tricked<\/span><\/p>\n

The library was courteous, a gentleman,<\/span><\/p>\n

It tiptoed around them\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Cast sparkling shadows from the sunset<\/span><\/p>\n

Onto their faces,<\/span><\/p>\n

And lulled them to sleep.<\/span><\/p>\n
