My love. My mother. My rock.<br \/>\nEverything happened so fast, I&#8217;m still in shock.<span class=\"text_exposed_show\"><br \/>\nYou are the strongest person I will ever know.<br \/>\nNow I hold on to our memories, but they seem so long ago.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"text_exposed_show\">\n<p>Playing Candy Crush at midnight,<br \/>\nTeaching me to drive,<br \/>\nWatching Rema dance at Ignite,<br \/>\nYou kept telling us &#8220;Live, don&#8217;t simply be alive.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-15094 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/artsatmichigan.umich.edu\/ink\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/IMG_5965.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"316\" height=\"237\" srcset=\"https:\/\/artsatmichigan.umich.edu\/ink\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/IMG_5965.jpg 640w, https:\/\/artsatmichigan.umich.edu\/ink\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/IMG_5965-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 316px) 100vw, 316px\" \/>You were always right,<br \/>\nbut I still liked to argue.<br \/>\nYou said, \u201ceverything will be alright,\u201d<br \/>\nI miss your advice.<\/p>\n<p>You always put others before you,<br \/>\nnever thought about it twice.<br \/>\nNow I hope you are finally at peace,<br \/>\nIn your own paradise.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I have cancer,&#8221; you said as a fact,<br \/>\nYet you didn&#8217;t shed a single tear, you stayed intact.<br \/>\nThrough all the treatments, the chemo, and pill,<br \/>\nYou still smiled and had such a strong will.<\/p>\n<p>You sacrificed everything for us.<br \/>\nYou worked hard for us.<br \/>\nYou hid back your tears from us.<br \/>\nBut you were taken away from us.<\/p>\n<p>Your beautiful smile,<br \/>\nYour quirky laugh,<br \/>\nYour ambition and drive,<br \/>\nI will always look up to you in awe.<\/p>\n<p>You taught me to be adventurous and wild,<br \/>\nYou were always the cool mom.<br \/>\nYou taught me to be gentle and kind,<br \/>\nDetermined and focused,<br \/>\nYou said, \u201chappiness is just a state of mind.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I cry, I wish, I hope<br \/>\nthat this is just a dream.<br \/>\nBecause you, Rema, and I, we were always a team.<\/p>\n<p>Now I\u2019ll carry on your legacy.<br \/>\nFulfill all your wishes.<br \/>\nI know you\u2019re guiding me from above,<br \/>\nSo I\u2019ll be ambitious.<\/p>\n<p>You lived, you loved, you laughed.<br \/>\nThis I hope you see.<br \/>\nThe only question I have for you is,<br \/>\nAre you proud of me?<\/p>\n<p>Mommy you are my entire world,<br \/>\nYou are as precious as your black pearl.<br \/>\nEvery day I miss you more.<\/p>\n<p>Signed&#8230;Your Little Girl.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<hr \/>\n<p>I wrote this poem almost 4 years ago. However, it resurfaced recently through a conversation. Over the course of the semester, I have been posting poems that have been reflective of the environment around me.
