{"id":14370,"date":"2020-11-11T17:34:54","date_gmt":"2020-11-11T22:34:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/artsatmichigan.umich.edu\/ink\/?p=14370"},"modified":"2023-03-28T16:41:14","modified_gmt":"2023-03-28T20:41:14","slug":"the-poetry-snapshot-lost-and-found","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/artsatmichigan.umich.edu\/ink\/2020\/11\/11\/the-poetry-snapshot-lost-and-found\/","title":{"rendered":"The Poetry Snapshot: Lost and Found"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left;\">I know of an old house,<br \/>\nwith crumbling patterned wallpaper and rusting photo frames.<br \/>\nSomehow, it holds its ground while continuing to burn in flames.<br \/>\nIt consumes those within;<br \/>\nclosing its doors behind all those who once curiously came in.<\/p>\n<p>Abandoned for a while now<br \/>\nand forgotten by outsiders,<br \/>\nthis house<br \/>\nis not<br \/>\nempty.<br \/>\nIt traps its stories inside.<\/p>\n<p>Every mirror reflecting its past glory and ticking clocks recounting its pride.<br \/>\nAll those moments gone and memories lost are found within this house.<\/p>\n<p>So I enter hoping to remember;<br \/>\nhoping to reminisce.<\/p>\n<p>And at first,<br \/>\nthe sight of old corduroy couches brought me back.<br \/>\nI know these steps, I know these floors.<br \/>\nI know this dining room window light.<br \/>\nAnd i&#8217;ve missed it.<\/p>\n<p>If I could bottle up the way the sun hit the walls every morning<br \/>\nand drink it for breakfast<br \/>\nI would.<br \/>\nI felt comfort in the arms of the past,<br \/>\ntrying to make each and every memory last.<\/p>\n<p>But there were holes.<br \/>\nUnfamiliar corners<br \/>\nand new scents<br \/>\nthat kept appearing.<br \/>\nShadows tainting my precious memories<br \/>\nlike invasive vines wrapping tightly around a tree.<br \/>\nI was suffocating.<\/p>\n<p>The more time I spent in this house searching<br \/>\nthe more it took from me,<br \/>\nuntil I had to face what I tried to ignore.<br \/>\nSometimes, what&#8217;s lost shouldn&#8217;t be looked for.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_14476\" class=\"thumbnail wp-caption alignleft\" style=\"width: 458px\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-14476\" src=\"http:\/\/artsatmichigan.umich.edu\/ink\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/IMG_2296-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"448\" height=\"336\" srcset=\"https:\/\/artsatmichigan.umich.edu\/ink\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/IMG_2296-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/artsatmichigan.umich.edu\/ink\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/IMG_2296-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/artsatmichigan.umich.edu\/ink\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/IMG_2296-768x576.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 448px) 100vw, 448px\" \/><figcaption class=\"caption wp-caption-text\"><em>Cheboygan, Michigan<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I know of an old house, with crumbling patterned wallpaper and rusting photo frames.
