{"id":17232,"date":"2021-09-29T12:54:26","date_gmt":"2021-09-29T16:54:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/artsatmichigan.umich.edu\/ink\/?p=17232"},"modified":"2021-10-13T16:24:54","modified_gmt":"2021-10-13T20:24:54","slug":"strangers-at-the-train-station","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/artsatmichigan.umich.edu\/ink\/2021\/09\/29\/strangers-at-the-train-station\/","title":{"rendered":"The Poetry Snapshot: Strangers at the Train Station"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Between two rolling hills, the first glimpse of metal tracks emerge.<br \/>\nThe platform is scattered with people ready to leave,<br \/>\nbut I am sitting on the verge.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_17237\" class=\"thumbnail wp-caption alignright\" style=\"width: 236px\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-17237\" src=\"http:\/\/artsatmichigan.umich.edu\/ink\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/IMG_3273-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"226\" height=\"301\" \/><figcaption class=\"caption wp-caption-text\"><em>Lima, Ohio<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Counting each track as I wait for some peace of mind.<br \/>\nLuggage filled with the memories I cannot leave behind,<br \/>\nit&#8217;s <em>almost<\/em> too heavy for me to carry.<br \/>\nSo perhaps I should stay back with my luggage,<br \/>\nor convince myself my destination is the wrong location.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;d leave comfort for curiosity at this station.<br \/>\nBut then two eyes fixate on my visible trepidation.<\/p>\n<p>Fleeting strangers he seeks out on the sidewalk,<br \/>\nhe gave me a spotlight in the comfort of small talk.<br \/>\nBecause those I love and hold so dear<br \/>\nare always going to stand so near,<br \/>\nthat I forget beauty from the horizon.<\/p>\n<p>Waiting for the train becomes a journey in itself.<br \/>\nStanding with no expectations,<br \/>\nmy fears are now painted over with new conversations.<\/p>\n<p>To inspire without intimacy,<br \/>\nconnect with no intricacy,<br \/>\nI remember a soft smile and hazel eyes,<br \/>\nyet you will never be named.<\/p>\n<p>This moment passes by with the train,<br \/>\nand I find peace in the transience.<br \/>\nOur lives never need to cross paths again,<br \/>\nthis fragile tie can remain undefined.<br \/>\nConfined to the walls of the New York Train Station.<\/p>\n<p>I eventually get on my train, ready to leave.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Between two rolling hills, the first glimpse of metal tracks emerge.
