Not every photo here is my best, as some of them are more significant in meaning than the artistic value. Red has become an important symbol in the women&#8217;s strike which is against the strict and religiously conservative new abortion laws in Poland. These laws already caused many health concerns as well as led to actual death, but also put the future of Poland&#8217;s political freedom and democracy into question.<\/p>\n<h3>MARCH &#8211; 1. Women&#8217;s strike on the International Women&#8217;s Day (Krakow, Poland)<\/h3>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-large wp-image-18551 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/artsatmichigan.umich.edu\/ink\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/DSC_2176-1024x677.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"648\" height=\"428\" srcset=\"https:\/\/artsatmichigan.umich.edu\/ink\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/DSC_2176-1024x677.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/artsatmichigan.umich.edu\/ink\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/DSC_2176-300x198.jpg 300w, https:\/\/artsatmichigan.umich.edu\/ink\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/DSC_2176-768x508.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 648px) 100vw, 648px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">I am putting two pictures for March since this is an important issue that I want to gain more international recognition. Since the new government was elected Poland&#8217;s democracy has been in decline. The government&#8217;s doings caused a wave of protests in which participation is progressively met with more punishments and consequences, which is a real threat to Poland&#8217;s political freedom.<\/p>\n<h3>2. A famous occupied house on Rigaer Strasse (Berlin, Germany)<\/h3>\n<h3>\u00a0<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-large wp-image-18553 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/artsatmichigan.umich.edu\/ink\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/DSC_2676-966x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"648\" height=\"687\" srcset=\"https:\/\/artsatmichigan.umich.edu\/ink\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/DSC_2676-966x1024.jpg 966w, https:\/\/artsatmichigan.umich.edu\/ink\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/DSC_2676-283x300.jpg 283w, https:\/\/artsatmichigan.umich.edu\/ink\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/DSC_2676-768x814.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 648px) 100vw, 648px\" \/><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Walking through Berlin you can often see these graffiti-filled buildings that are actually areas occupied by citizens who often reject the conventional social structures and norms. They usually separate themselves from the society and communicate through art and activism. Landlords often don&#8217;t mind, but with increasing gentrification the occupants are more frequently forced out of what is now their home \u2013 and so they protest with art pieces like this one.<\/p>\n<h3>APRIL &#8211; Re-discovering my city (Krakow, Poland)<\/h3>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-large wp-image-18507 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/artsatmichigan.umich.edu\/ink\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/IMG_8531-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"648\" height=\"864\" srcset=\"https:\/\/artsatmichigan.umich.edu\/ink\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/IMG_8531-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/artsatmichigan.umich.edu\/ink\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/IMG_8531-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 648px) 100vw, 648px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">I was already stuck at home for the semester, which is why I decided to re-discover my city by walking through it and pretending like I am a tourist seeing it for the first time.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>MAY &#8211; The line for COVID vaccinations on the Market Square (Krakow, Poland)<\/h3>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-large wp-image-18557 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/artsatmichigan.umich.edu\/ink\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/DSC_3885-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"648\" height=\"432\" srcset=\"https:\/\/artsatmichigan.umich.edu\/ink\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/DSC_3885-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/artsatmichigan.umich.edu\/ink\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/DSC_3885-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/artsatmichigan.umich.edu\/ink\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/DSC_3885-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 648px) 100vw, 648px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">In May vaccines started to be available to everyone aged 18 and older instead of only for certain groups, and it was still difficult to find a slot on short notice.
