The body of a man in matted red robes was found just outside the ramparts of the Royal Palace early in the morning.\u00a0 Little could be discerned of his features for how badly they were disfigured.\u00a0 The man, in addition to having been stabbed, looked as though he had put up a fight.<\/p>\n
There were few identifying features beyond the robe, which marked his as an advisor to the King.\u00a0 He was well in his years, and he seemed to\u2026[Editors\u2019 note:\u00a0 here, the writing is smudged beyond readability.]<\/em>, but little else could be discerned.\u00a0 He carried no personal items saved for a single key.<\/p>\n I have set to asking the guards who were on watch what they saw.\u00a0 The guards who were on rotation at the time and could feasibly have witnessed the act were Roskid Alyanin, Ygnid Pulnin, Argsat Fralyatsin, Vengor Chivortin, Palor Palgordin, Ista Khrenveyen, Fereydor Utkaran, and Dzeyshet Tos.\u00a0 Of the eight guards, only two, Chivortin and Khrenveyen, reported unusual instances occurring during their shifts.\u00a0 The testimonies of all eight are recorded below.<\/p>\n Alyanin:\u00a0 My shift was cold, but I saw nothing that drew my gaze.\u00a0 It was an odd, silent night.\u00a0 I don\u2019t favor night shifts.\u00a0 I do them, but they unsettle me.<\/p>\n Pulnin:\u00a0 I was on rotation with Roskid.\u00a0 We never saw anything and spent most of the time shivering and trying to keep warm.\u00a0 Say, why is it so important we answer this question?\u00a0 Of course I am not suggesting insubordination.\u00a0 I was asking cause I want to do my job.<\/p>\n Fralyatsin:\u00a0 See anything?\u00a0 No, not even on this night.\u00a0 It was clear, but I didn\u2019t see anything of note.\u00a0 It was colder than expected, but no, Vengor and I, we made conversation of our lives and things.\u00a0 Vengor isn\u2019t the conversationalist, but I could not think of any other way to pass the time that was permitted.\u00a0 He is too serious for me.<\/p>\n Chivortin:\u00a0 Did I see anything unusual?\u00a0 Well, actually, now that you say something, my companion left his post for what felt like almost an hour partway through.\u00a0 I don\u2019t think we were at the halfway point yet.\u00a0 I don\u2019t know his name, but I think I could pick him out if you showed me the men.\u00a0 He liked talking, he did.\u00a0 Loved talking.\u00a0 I don\u2019t know why he suddenly went off like that.<\/p>\n Palgordin:\u00a0 I didn\u2019t see it, but my part did.\u00a0 Said he saw something moving, but I told him, no, that wasn\u2019t it.\u00a0 Musta been how tired he was.\u00a0 Always nervous on these shifts.\u00a0 He gets nervous, I see nothing.\u00a0 It was nothing.\u00a0 Just him being him.<\/p>\n Khrenveyen:\u00a0 I saw someone moving across the grounds at one point, but when I pointed it to Pal, he said he saw nothing.\u00a0 I don\u2019t know why I decided to do it then, but I looked up and saw that the moon was three quarters of the way to dawn.\u00a0 I like to keep track of the moon.<\/p>\n Utkaran:\u00a0 Oh, Dzeyshet and I had the dullest shift on the southwest side.\u00a0 Nothing happening for hours and hours, and boredom so deep we could not make conversation.\u00a0 When I was relieved of my shift, the first thing I did was return to my barracks and sleep.\u00a0 I was so bored and dull I could not think of any way to interest myself.\u00a0 I have a reputation for knowing the serving women, but I did nothing of the sort.\u00a0 I was too bored to even consider such.<\/p>\n Tos:\u00a0 It was an ordinary shift.\u00a0 Nothing happening, no unusual sounds, everything going as it should.\u00a0 The kind of shift where you start to stare at everything and your eyes and ears grow kind of dull from staring at the same thing for so long.\u00a0 I didn\u2019t know anything happened till you summoned me.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" The body of a man in matted red robes was found just outside the ramparts of the Royal Palace early in the morning.\u00a0 Little could be discerned of his features for how badly they were disfigured.\u00a0 The man, in addition to having been stabbed, looked as though he had put up a fight.
