My attempt at children’s poetry since I work a lot with children, and wanted to see if I could cater my writing to that audience.<\/p>\n
Midnight Woods\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n Come my child,<\/span><\/p>\n Have you heard the tale of the midnight woods?<\/span><\/p>\n Well listen tight you should.<\/span><\/p>\n Tis a place no humans are found alive.<\/span><\/p>\n Where the magic brims and creatures thrive.<\/span><\/p>\n Nightshade, belladonna and hemlock you\u2019ll find here<\/span><\/p>\n Of all the plants you should stay clear.<\/span><\/p>\n They grow on branches.<\/span><\/p>\n They grow on vines.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n They grow out of big black pots at times.<\/span><\/p>\n Stirred by the critters in their pointy hats,<\/span><\/p>\n Who use the magic of their habitat.<\/span><\/p>\n To brew potions.<\/span><\/p>\n To cast spells.<\/span><\/p>\n To make a home of the place they dwell.<\/span><\/p>\n In the woods it is never day,<\/span><\/p>\n The monsters that live here prefer it that way.<\/span><\/p>\n They stomp and shuffle in the dark.<\/span><\/p>\n Breaking branches, leaving marks.<\/span><\/p>\n The ground is laced with an icky goop.<\/span><\/p>\n It\u2019s thick and blue.<\/span><\/p>\n Be careful!<\/span><\/p>\n Or it might swallow you.<\/span><\/p>\n The woods are covered.<\/span><\/p>\n Their world unseen.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Obscured by a smoke of purple and green.<\/span><\/p>\n So my child,<\/span><\/p>\n Lend me an ear.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n So you can avoid these woods<\/span><\/p>\n Filled with fear.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Close your eyes.<\/span><\/p>\n Repeat after me.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cI am strong.<\/span><\/p>\n I am brave.<\/span><\/p>\n I have things I fear<\/span><\/p>\n and that\u2019s okay.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Now open your eyes.<\/span><\/p>\n Let out a sigh.<\/span><\/p>\n The world is scary,<\/span><\/p>\n I cannot deny.<\/span><\/p>\n One day you might find yourself\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n In a frightening place.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n It could be this forest, it could be a cave.<\/span><\/p>\n Wherever you find yourself,<\/span><\/p>\n There is something to know.<\/span><\/p>\n Words to keep with you\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n wherever you go.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n You are strong.<\/span><\/p>\n You are brave.<\/span><\/p>\n You have things you fear\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n and that\u2019s okay.<\/span><\/p>\n No matter your fears\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n big or small.<\/span><\/p>\n You are brave enough\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n to face them all.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" My attempt at children’s poetry since I work a lot with children, and wanted to see if I could cater my writing to that audience.
