There was always going to be a list<\/p>\n\n\n\n
First wandering far past downtown to<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A bus stop where once I walked westward with<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mud-caked boots and a rain-soaked umbrella<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And two friends, all doing our best to flee<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Hash Bash haze awaiting us<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And at that point I made a goal<\/p>\n\n\n\n
To cover every cardinal direction<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And see how far I could wander<\/p>\n\n\n\n
East had long been done, a loop<\/p>\n\n\n\n
That sent me past the first flowers,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mannequins, ant colonies, and mourning doves<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Of a spring with five false starts<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But one always welcome all the same<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Travelling together, time spent speculating<\/p>\n\n\n\n
About what makes a \u201cgood\u201d scary<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And in between my trips I stopped<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For a moment amidst tabletop memories<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Or going through the graveyard, daisies blooming<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Or an overlook of Shakespearean summers<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Or a last time wandering the Arb for me<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And the first for another<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Before I made my way north, by bus, by foot<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Into that setting sun with turkeys in the trees<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Deer in the dark, raccoons by the road<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Each a reminder of my final walks<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As I took in the same stars<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And finally, I decided to<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Replace that chance to<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Take a southward route<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With a carnival, one more roll of dice<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And a \u201csee you later\u201d to<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Friends I go through the witchlight with<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Because I\u2019ll be back to finish my goal<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Of four ways to wander<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And start a few more trails anew<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After all, I remember the paths<\/p>\n\n\n\n
