{"id":802,"date":"2010-10-13T22:32:13","date_gmt":"2010-10-14T02:32:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www3.arts.umich.edu\/ink\/?p=802"},"modified":"2010-10-13T22:32:58","modified_gmt":"2010-10-14T02:32:58","slug":"tattos-the-art-ink","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/artsatmichigan.umich.edu\/ink\/2010\/10\/13\/tattos-the-art-ink\/","title":{"rendered":"Tattoos: the art Ink."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m quite surprised the topic of tattoos has not yet been brought up in Arts <em>Ink.<\/em> Seems ironic, no?\u00c2\u00a0 Well, I shall be the first to introduce you to the world of tattoos through what I call the \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcMom\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 Tat.\u00c2\u00a0 I think tattoos can be both the greatest and worst forms of artistic expression.\u00c2\u00a0 They often carry a story, maybe tribute a loved one or say something sacred to the person who wears the tattoo.\u00c2\u00a0 Whatever the reason for getting a tattoo, I enjoy looking at other\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s tattoos and trying to understand why they got it.<\/p>\n<p>Most recently one of my friends got a \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcMom\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 tat on her ribs.\u00c2\u00a0 It has Mom written in a heart about 3 inches wide and 2 inches long.\u00c2\u00a0 This is not her first tattoo, but I remember when she told me what she got I thought she might be joking.\u00c2\u00a0 When I realized she was not, I took her seriously and found the beauty in what she had done.\u00c2\u00a0 I remember saying, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Wow, your Mom must feel so special that you did that!\u00e2\u20ac\u009d\u00c2\u00a0 Not saying that getting a Mom tattoo is THE way of telling your Mom you love and appreciate her, but it is one heck of a good one!<\/p>\n<p>To get a tattoo in the first place is a big step.\u00c2\u00a0 I have always wanted to get one, but I don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t know what I would get, so I am ink free to date.\u00c2\u00a0 To get a tattoo in recognition of a loved one I believe is a selfless act.\u00c2\u00a0 Marking your body with their name indicates how they have affected you and how they will indefinitely be with you.<\/p>\n<p>I will remain tat free for a while, but I will continue to be intrigued by others\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 tattoos decisions.\u00c2\u00a0 Long live the MOM TAT!<\/p>\n<p>Peace,<\/p>\n<p>Sara<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m quite surprised the topic of tattoos has not yet been brought up in Arts Ink.
