Since the late 1980\u2019s romantic comedies (romcoms) have been a staple genre. \u00a0It was popular all the way until the late 2000\u2019s when the genre feel out of popularity. \u00a0Now Netflix is bringing it back.<\/span><\/p>\n

There seems to be a gigantic list of romantic comedies that came and are now classics from the 80\u2019s. \u00a0There is \u201cWhen Harry Met Sally\u201d, \u201c16 Candles\u201d, \u201cPretty In Pink\u201dand \u201cCan\u2019t buy Me Love\u201d. These romcoms are now classics and must watches for all romcom lovers. \u00a0The 80\u2019s also had several romcom stars. The most notable being Molly Ringwald who starred in \u201cPretty In Pink\u201d and \u201c16 Candles\u201d. The theme of female romcom stars continued all the way to the present.<\/span><\/p>\n

The 90\u2019s was the arguably the golden age of the romcom. \u00a0Movies from \u201cNotting Hill\u201d to \u201c10 Things I Hate About You\u201d were somewhat popular while some of the biggest hits that every person still knows are \u201cSleepless In Seattle\u201d and \u201cClueless\u201d. \u00a0\u201cClueless\u201d was the \u201cMean Girls\u201d of the 90\u2019s and became a quotable icon very quickly. \u201cSleepless In Seattle\u201d is one of the most iconic romcoms that everyone knows and loves. It is one of the most must see romcoms and movies in general. \u00a0Some of the stars from the 90\u2019s romcoms are Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks. Not only were the two popular romcom stars but they also starred opposite of each other in two of the biggest romcoms of the 90s (\u201cSleepless In Seattle\u201d and \u201cYou\u2019ve Got Mail\u201d).<\/span><\/p>\n

The 2000\u2019s were the downhill slope of the romcom. \u00a0The theater and tv were getting so saturated that not that many stood out to the general public. \u00a0Some of the big romcoms were \u201c27 Dresses\u201d, \u201cBridget Jones Diary\u201d, \u201cThe Proposal\u201d, and \u201c13 Going On 30\u201d. \u00a0The 2000s split romcoms into several categories because there were so many movies. Romcoms were split into teen movie romcoms, made for tv romcoms and then hit romcoms. \u00a0Some of the teen romcoms were \u201cShe\u2019s The Man\u201d, \u201cWhat A Girl Wants\u201d and \u201cA Cinderalla Story\u201d. The star of the teen romcom category was Amanda Bynes who starred in over 5 romcom movies. \u00a0There were many stars of the popular romcoms, One of the stars of the popular romcoms was Sandra Bullock who starred in \u201cTwo Weeks Notice\u201d, and \u201cThe Proposal\u201d. Two others were Anne Hathaway and Jennifer Lopez.<\/span><\/p>\n

After the early 2000s were over saturated with romcoms the genre died down for a little bit. \u00a0There was only made for tv romcoms, with most of them coming out of the Hallmark Channel. Over the past year Netflix has tried to redeem the genre and have been creating a large amount. \u00a0There most recent movies have gotten a lot of attention and they are bringing new romcom stars. The most popular Netflix romcoms are \u201cThe Kissing Booth\u201d, \u201cSet It Up\u201d, and \u201cTo All The Boys I Loved Before\u201d. \u00a0With these movies the biggest star that has risen is Noah Centineo who starred in \u201cTo All The Boys I Loved Before\u201d. With all of these new Netflix romcoms the genre is coming back into the lime light and is being revived.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
