The Arts Initiative is dedicated to providing a platform for University of Michigan students to share their artistic voice and creativity!
These programs showcase a wide range of student creative work.
Arts Initiative believes there is an artist inside each of us. These competitions are your opportunity to share your artistic genius, exhibit your work for the University community and win some prizes! Competitions will be held periodically throughout the year, with calls for art using different themes and mediums. Submissions are narrowed down by staff, and then the finalists are voted on by the public in the Unions and by the U-M Community online. Winners get great prizes, so be sure you’re signed up for Arts Info, our weekly email, so you’ll hear about our future contests and opportunities.
The UofM Women’s Glee Club (WGC) is a choral ensemble of undergraduate and graduate treble singers from diverse backgrounds across campus. Primarily non-music majors, WGC uplifts voices through song, sisterhood, and service. Founded in 1893, WGC has a long history of uplifting students, alumni, and the surrounding community. With Fall and Spring concerts, performances at football tailgates, invitations from the University to sing at Commencement, and tours to destinations like Ireland and NOLA, WGC remains dedicated to fostering musical excellence for women regardless of their field of study. This year, WGC reached its largest membership with 80 singers in Fall and 88 in Winter. Last semester, WGC was the first collegiate ensemble to fully record “Home in Me” by Andrea Clearfield and Sienna Craig. Led by passionate non-music majors, WGC fosters community and interdisciplinary collaboration by singing at sporting events like gymnastics meets, Women in Science events, and Women’s Vocal Arts Day.
