Paani is a new, non-profit student organization at the University of Michigan focused on alleviating the water crisis in Pakistan through building wells and spreading awareness. Paani held it's first annual culture night on January 24th, 2019. The goal of the night was to partner with the Bangladeshi, Egyptian, Iraqi, Jordanian, Lebanese, Pakistani, Persian, and Yemeni Student Association for a night of cultural celebration and empowerment. These 8 countries suffer from serious sanitation issues. Millions have died as a result of these inhumane conditions, but billions have become desensitized to these tragedies just as the victims have become dehumanized. So for one night, Paani brought everyone together showcasing unique cultures through cultural music, dance, food, and attire. Paani was named Student Org of the Year by Student Life.
