Wolverine Records exists to provide a safe space for amateur and professional student musicians alike to foster their musical talents and transform what may be a mere hobby into a prosocial gathering of like-minded individuals. Members will be encouraged to share their work with one another and also become more comfortable with sharing their work online to greater audiences, encouraging them to “come out of their shells” and elevate their work into anything they want it to be, from artful self-expression that can be seamlessly integrated into one’s digital portfolio, to a profitable side gig. As part of the “curriculum” of the club, members will be instructed in the art of production, mixing, self-promotion, and setting up social media and streaming distribution accounts, with the individual goal of self-starting as a musical artist. A collective goal for the entire club will be to form a “student-run record label” and create a label compilation album by the end of the school year between members of the club who have reached the point of being able to create their own songs or work on songs together in a meaningful way. A distinguishing characteristic of Wolverine Records is that it does not gatekeep or pass judgement. Everyone, regardless of musical proficiency or experience, is welcome to join.
