Xylem Literary Magazine

Xylem Literary Magazine promotes appreciation and understanding of the arts through the annual publication of a professional arts and literary magazine. Their selective submissions process provides a prestigious platform for the publication of student work in a variety of genres, while weekly meetings and group discussions encourage critical analysis of arts and literature in a nurturing, collaborative setting. Selected artists and writers were invited to their public release party in celebration of the magazine’s publication. After a brief social period, writers and musicians performed excerpts of their work to the public, allowing budding artists an opportunity to engage directly with their audience and facilitating the spread of artistic ideas and forms in the Ann Arbor community.

Their selective submissions process provides a prestigious platform for the publication of student work in a variety of genres, while weekly meetings and group discussions encourage critical analysis of arts and literature in a nurturing, collaborative setting. Selected artists and writers were invited to their public release party in April in celebration of the magazine’s publication. An elegant affair, the release party was held at the Literati Bookstore, where contributing artists presented their work on easels at the entrance or on the surrounding walls. After a brief social period, writers and musicians performed excerpts of their work to the public, allowing budding artists an opportunity to engage directly with their audience and facilitating the spread of artistic ideas and forms in the Ann Arbor community.
