MOSAIC: Intercultural Performance Ensemble

About

MOSAIC is dedicated to creating original or re-envisioned living-arts (through music, theatre, and dance) based on the principle that diversity is about achieving a universal human understanding as our individual sensibilities, brought together, grant us a glimpse of the greater image of truth. We dismiss the idea of the 'melting pot', a confined crucible in which various materials are merged into one uniform, monochromatic, paste. Rather, we believe in a community composed like a mosaic, in which even the tiniest of tiles shines with it's full brightness of it's unique color, yet sorrounded by other tiles with colors from a full spectrum, the vastness of human experience becomes visible within a single image. We welcome all artists regardless of race, color, national origin, age, marital status, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, disability, religion, height, weight, or veteran status. Originally called Drama Club (dedicated to Chinese performance), MOSAIC evolved from an intercultural collaboration that revealed the richness of transcultural collaboration.

Farhad, or the secret of being

April 14th 2017
Mosaic: Intercultural Performance Ensemble

FARHAD OR THE SECRET OF BEING tells the story of a young Muslim girl who has grown up as a “bacha posh”, a girl dressed by her parents as a boy to make it easier for her to play outside and go to school. However, when she comes of age to be married off, she must adjust to being a girl and existing in the misogynistic and dangerous environment as a woman. This evening of theatre was produced by Mosaic, an Intercultural Performance Ensemble dedicated to creating original or re-envisioned live art based on the principle that diversity is about achieving a universal human understanding as our individual sensibilities, brought together, grant us a glimpse of the greater truth.
