One of my favorite parts of these interviews is learning about whole subparts of artistic industries that I had no idea about. Continuing on our conversation from last week, BCN senior and Creative Writing minor Selene Yang taught me about the strange world of “Writing Twitter.”
On Monday, I had the joy of talking with Selene Yang, a senior majoring in Biopsychology, Cognition, and Neuroscience with a minor in Creative Writing. It was one of those long conversations where we got carried away and explored some unexpected topics, so I’m splitting this interview up into two parts. This week, I talked (on the bus) with Ophelia Deng, a senior in both International Studies and Art & Design.We talked about the main skill Stamps teaches – whether it intends to or not – which is self-sufficiency.
As a Stamps student myself, it was nice to discuss career prep for aspiring artists with someone going through the same educational experience. It’s oddly comforting to hear that a talented graduating senior feels just as frustrated and unprepared as I do. It makes it seem okay that I don’t really know what I’m doing.
This week, I had the opportunity to catch up with Juliet Schlefer, a junior in the School of Music, Theater & Dance majoring in Vocal Performance. You can catch her in the Thursday and Saturday shows of SMTD’s production of Die Fledermaus, which will be running at the Lydia Mendelssohn Theatre from March 26 – 29.
This week, I talked with Jacob Ward, a sophomore studying clarinet performance in the School of Music, Theater, & Dance. Outside of class, you can also find him working for SHEI Magazine or the University of Michigan Museum of Art.
After a semester of interviews with other students in the arts, I decided to take stock of where I’m at so far with some inspiration from Rodin. Actual interviews start up again next week – I’m excited for where they’ll go from here.
