Wolverine Stew: A Couple Games of Life

If I looped a day this week it would be

The one of paper eyes, water on fire

And a wave of scattered dice

A room erupting in howling cheers

And you are part of those cheers

And the cacophony is almost as sweet

As the impromptu victory feast of three afterwards

The one of cackling sailors and bees

Mechanical smiles reflecting my own

Popcorn boxes and pinball machines

Acid-touched stone man, wall of magicians and elephants

Going together to each of the

Drums, zombies, and a card with my fortune

Root beer floats, overflowing or not

And I could get used to it all

And to the

Quiet in the sunlight afterward

As turkey tails sprout from rotting logs

And every yard begins to turn blue with flowers

Because whether it’s something old or new

I still feel at home

Bro just asked me if I’ve ever tried putting ice cream on a cookie. As if I’m not a fatass!

before it came crashing down you once said we all end up in the same place. like life is a stomach and we are forced to churn. water can flow down the wrong pipe // seeds can sprout in lungs // i could give in or give way or give up and would that be so bad? spin the wheel of fortune, grab a wedge of sunlight, shrink down into the abyss that follows. this is nice, you think, a noiseless descent into the vault of memory. no bad angles, just perfect planes. when biting into an animal cracker, aim straight for the heart.

You live in a house? Like a mailbox and a driveway and a backyard and everything?

Yeah.

What is this? What kind of sorcery is this?

Hot Topic, 2:00PM, 1/14/2024

to make the argument about human necessity is to implicate man as an accessory. downfall is self-assembled, like a robot. ants among giants, ogres among angels–elected because they could reach the heavens, and scolded because they would not leave. a beanstalk, chopped down, falling to the earth like the fallen logs that lined the fence to the elementary school. i taste the odor of gas and smell the chainsaw’s teeth and i know another one has fallen.

–and yet i walked up to the house, past the rubble, between the beams that lifted the structure into the sky. i lived, i lived–

I get drinks by asking for a water cup.

Okay, well I’m nice and I pay for my drinks, plus I have the Panera Sip Club…

I’m sorry that you have morals.

Glen/Catherine Outbound, 12:00PM, 1/27/2024

it is always easier to talk about something that is lost. even easier when the object is subjective, when there are strains of doubt that can seep into the pavement, tearing up the stairs and the highways and the purgatories that lie beyond. have you lost your mind? your wits? your morals? a quantum experiment, schrodinger’s reply, yes and no shattered against a backdrop of an infinite outcomes. flip one of the switches, true-to-false, and you will survive, won’t you? change all of them–a novel binary, encoded in the scraps of your imagination–and you loop to the person you once were.

MediaScape Musings # 14 : My Photographic Journey Inspired by Zhong Lin: Celebrating “Soulscape” – My Solo Exhibition

In the realm of art and photography, few talents have captivated me as profoundly as Zhong Lin who shot a lot of cover photos for Vogue. It was her mesmerizing work that not only ignited my passion for artistic photography but also served as the catalyst for my own creative journey. Today, I stand at a pivotal moment in my career, reflecting on the journey that has led me to host my very own solo photography exhibition, “Soulscape.”

Zhong Lin’s unique vision and unparalleled creativity transcend the ordinary, transforming everyday scenes into extraordinary pieces of art. It was this transformational power of her photography that inspired me to pick up a camera and explore the world through my lens. Her ability to capture the essence of a moment, to tell stories that evoke emotion and provoke thought, has been a guiding light in my own exploration of artistic photography.

Over the past year and a half, I have dedicated myself to honing my craft, drawing inspiration from the beauty that surrounds us and the intricate emotions that connect us. This journey of self-discovery and artistic expression has culminated in the creation of “Soulscape” – my solo photography exhibition.

“Soulcape” is a collection of my work that seeks to explore the depths of human emotion and the connection between the soul and the natural world. Each photograph in the exhibition is a reflection of my journey, an exploration of the themes that have resonated with me deeply throughout my creative process.

As the exhibition draws to a close, I am filled with a mix of emotions. I am grateful for the inspiration and guidance Zhong Lin’s work has provided me; pride, in seeing my own vision come to life; and excitement, for the future paths my photographic journey will take.

I invite you to experience “Soulscape” before it concludes. Your presence would not only mean the world to me but also offer you a glimpse into the emotions and stories I have sought to capture through my lens.

[ Horned crawlers are members of the Kheprian crawler family, small armored creatures native to Khepri-1b. They are omnivorous, with their diet ranging from small larvae and eggs that they dig out of the soil to tubers of the deep-rooted brush in the darkgrass plains of the planet's terminator zone. ]

Witness the Small Life – Battle Royale

All is fair in lunch and war!

As the great OK Go stated (more or less) twas a week full of upside downs and inside outs indeed! From beautiful skies to devious windchill, not only has the weather been a rollercoaster but so has my to-do list. It’s felt like I’ve simultaneously had nothing to do while having nothing to do and vice versa. I’ve been jumping from place to place every which way, but in between all of this commotion there’s been some great moments of rest, relaxation, and rollicking!

With our first full week back in the full swing of things, there were a few big moments! Most of all I had my work shown in my first college art show thank to the newly formed club The Stampede on campus. Whether you draw, paint, sculpt, write, or anything in between, consider submitting your work for their next show! It was amazing to not only see my work among so many other beautiful pieces but also talk to and celebrate with other art majors and non-art majors alike.

Some other highlights of this week: Celebrating my friend’s birthday with balloon guests and Spirited Away, (badly) playing a Tekken Tournament and singing along to YouTube karaoke with friends, and in general doing SO much more drawing everyday!

To take into our next week:

Ins: Telling people you think they’re awesome, the color green, admitting defeat (in a cordial manner), mismatched socks, Wisconsin cheese, using the word awesome!

Outs: Impulsive spending, forgetting to floss, watching really bad TV shows just to have something on in the background, chipping at nail polish, forgetting to bring a hat on really cold night walks home from the library.

Happy (or not so happy) Daylight Savings to you all and let us all hope for some more permanent blue skies ahead of us!

Capturing Campus: March

Corporeal Cloud
if you look too long at the sky
you’ll fall in
plunging deep in the pocket
between times and spaces
that weren’t there yesterday
to steal your breath and the blood
in your bones a talisman for the justification
the gathering of your insides
in vague palms like cotton candy mounds
flossing between windowsills and rooftop shingles
a corporeal cloud
which is all too much
until you feel your feet on the ground
