LOG_031_SEAGLIDERS

A pair of Kaua Merchant Navy Cormorant-class seagliders on a regular reconnaissance patrol, seen skimming over the waters of HKC 2901 c.

Cormorant-class seagliders are a type of medium-sized aircraft meant for fast powered flight over medium- to long-distances. They are often used as escort and reconnaissance vehicles by the Kaua Merchant Navy on the waterworld of HKC 2901 c. They have both single- and twin-seat variants, feature two pylons per wing, and a modest internal bay on its underside that can be outfitted with various equipment suites or light armaments.

NOTES

[ Horned crawlers are members of the Kheprian crawler family, small armored creatures native to Khepri-1b. They are omnivorous, with their diet ranging from small larvae and eggs that they dig out of the soil to tubers of the deep-rooted brush in the darkgrass plains of the planet's terminator zone. ]

SHORT DESC [ SPECIES 0014 ]

NOTES

[ Though small, these creatures are vicious, opportunistic hunters in their own right. They rely on camouflage and concealment to ambush their prey, and are capable of digging rapidly or sprinting in short bursts. They have also been observed to construct burrows and underground traps. Their scaled hide provides some protection against the abrasive elements of their native environments, as well as attacks or predation by others. ]

ARTICLE NOTES:

[ These large creatures stand around 4.5-5.2 ft at the shoulders and are 8.3 to 10.5 ft long, and are native to the planet Khepri-1d. They have been domesticated for transportation and livestock purposes, providing protection and travel over uneven terrain and a source of leather and rudimentary armor. Their lumbering, heavyset appearance belies the surprising speed they can attain in quick, short bursts in defense of their herds. ]

ARTICLE ARCHIVED FROM [ KATJA RUŽA KRALJ]

ARTICLE NOTES:

[ Grass windsurfers are a group of small, insectoid creatures which inhabit the windy darkgrass plains in the near-side terminator on Khepri-1b. Their prominent tail spine contains a folded thin membrane that can be expanded to act as a sail, allowing them to glide short distances on the strong and near-perpetual gusts in the region. Inflatable air sacs on either side of their bodies allow them some control over their own buoyancy. They often have bright eye-like markings on the dorsal side of their bodies, which likely serve the same purpose as eyespots seen in Earth life for deceiving predator or prey species. ]

ARTICLE ARCHIVED FROM [ MARIAH BERGGREN ]

ARTICLE NOTES:

[ The kernel barnacle, so named for its resemblance to Earth barnacles and a vague similarity to the shape and size of sunflower kernels, are an order of false barnacles that are native to the deep oceans of Khepri-1b. Similar to Earth barnacles, they are typically sessile as adults and are predominantly filter feeders, though motile juveniles have been observed to actively prey on tiny organisms. Unlike Earth barnacles, they are only found attached to rocks and debris around deep-sea hydrothermal vents on Khepri-1b. Their shells are composed of chitin, iron compounds, and silica, the latter of which creates an opalescent effect under shifting lights.]
