Kitanikos

Kita’s campaign is finally underway! I’m still working on her design. More under the read more.

Kita’s first design was too touristy and modern. Her second too ‘Generic Fantasy’. I decided since Kita’s an ash tree dryad associated with bees, she should be based on Creten fashion. Because Crete has the myth of these dryads.

Kita wears more male fashion because she’s an active character. I like the loose pants and belt with knives, all I need to do is figure out the top. How fancy should it be? Sleeves or no sleeves?

I gave Kita a headscarf and bangs because a lot of the women in Minoan art had headscarves and bangs.

I changed her face too. I squished it more and gave her a cleft chin.

Here’s her old square:

Micey

J. Shen or "Micey" is a Senior at Umich. She loves character design and telling stories and dabbles in making her own comics. Sketchbook Smashing is an attempt to chronicle her process in designing characters. From first concepts, hairstyle and outfit changes, or even complete shifts in design. She also hopes to map out how her own art style changes throughout the year. Her website is https://wallmouseart.weebly.com Her art Tumblr is https://wallmouse.tumblr.com
