A Day In Our Lives #17

Hey guys,

This week I decided to draw Aphrodite for Valentine’s Day! This semester I have been added to the Arts Ambassadors here at Arts at Michigan and today we had a valentines day event! It was super fun. We make different crafts and had snacks. I love celebrating Valentine’s Day, it is one of my favorite holidays! I decided to draw Aphrodite in pink and red. I am Greek and have always thought that Aphrodite was one of the most interesting Gods or Goddesses. I love her celebration of love and beauty. She is a positive beauty standard for women today, as she is sculpted closer to the real female form, rather than the male gaze “ideal” one. Valentine’s day here on campus is really hard to navigate, especially at the last minute. My partner and I were lucky that we could get a reservation today, only two days prior. Very busy in Ann Arbor!!

See you next week,

A Day In Our Lives #16

Hey Guys,
This week I wanted to talk about a bit of what I do on campus to pass my free time. I usually watch a lot of tv shows and cartoons while I crochet and make my artwork for school.  My favorite movie of all time is the Labyrinth starring David Bowie. these little creatures I have drawn are from that film. I think they’re super creepy and fun. I have a lot of fun drawing them. I usually don’t use a variety of bright colors but I really wanted to make them have dimension and look cool. I think that this decision really makes them pop. I usually spend a lot of time also hanging out with my friends and socializing here on campus. I am super excited for my upcoming show this week at the Stamps art Gallery. I have a sculpture going to the show, I hope you all check it out!
See you next week,

A Day In Our Lives #15

Hey guys,

I found my apple pencil! This week I am including another art piece that took longer to work on. Two of my posts so far have featured dinosaurs because I am extremely interested in them! I created this art piece first by drawing out the perspective lines on paper, and then I took a photo of the drawing on my phone. I sent the image to my iPad and colored it in a monochrome grey palette. I really wanted to focus on perspective and lighting in this drawing. I like how the energy of this drawing turned out.

A little update about campus life, I went to the snowball fight on the Diag with my friends this week! I encourage you all to attend cute events like this because it was a really cool and really made me feel like I was a part of the UofM community.

See you next week!

Marissa

A Day In Our Lives #14

Hey guys,

This week is a little out of the ordinary, my drawing this week is on paper with colored pencils instead of on my iPad. I lost my apple pencil and I’ve been looking everywhere for it! I saw a squirrel for the first time in like two months so I was inspired to draw this little guy. I gave him a. little Starbucks cup to keep him warm. I liked drawing this week’s post on paper, so I might do something similar in the future. I regularly am a traditional artist and sometimes I feel like I am able to be looser with my drawing. It is hard for my brain to register the Ipad as some form of paper I think!

See you guys next week

A Day In Our Lives #13

Hey guys!

This week I thought that I would show a comic that I worked on last semester. I really like incorporating science and science fiction into my work. I like dinosaurs and wanted to pursue a minor in Paleontology but didn’t have room on my schedule. It has a little bit of humor at the end. This comic took roughly half the semester to work on all of the individual panels. I used a mix of colored pencil, Copic markers, pen, and procreate on my iPad in order to get all of the different textures.  It was convenient to be able to use procreate last in order to use it for the final editing and coloring.

See you guys next week!

A Day In Our Lives #12

Hey guys!

This week I wanted to draw what my commute to school normally looks like. I feel like I am always carrying a million things! Art school needs a lot of supplies. I live on central campus and have to commute to north campus to go to school, which means I have to take the bus. It feels awful to have to carry a lot of art supplies or your own artwork for everyone to see. The experience is awful especially when it is an art piece I don’t like or aren’t proud of. Have sympathy for us art kids <3  I hope the start of everyone’s semester is going well! All of my artwork in this blog is done in procreate.
