A Day In Our Lives #17

Hey guys,

This week I decided to draw Aphrodite for Valentine’s Day! This semester I have been added to the Arts Ambassadors here at Arts at Michigan and today we had a valentines day event! It was super fun. We make different crafts and had snacks. I love celebrating Valentine’s Day, it is one of my favorite holidays! I decided to draw Aphrodite in pink and red. I am Greek and have always thought that Aphrodite was one of the most interesting Gods or Goddesses. I love her celebration of love and beauty. She is a positive beauty standard for women today, as she is sculpted closer to the real female form, rather than the male gaze “ideal” one. Valentine’s day here on campus is really hard to navigate, especially at the last minute. My partner and I were lucky that we could get a reservation today, only two days prior. Very busy in Ann Arbor!!

See you next week,
Marissa

Exhibit B.

These are two of many cylindrical pods found in the laboratory space of the abandoned research station Delta Red [see Incident Report KHP #2104-0103 for further information]. Unusual for its location, the pods lack obious signage and symbols, but chemical residuals suggest that their purpose involved energy synthesis involving biological material.

Evolving Emotions: Love

So much of the art put out into the world is about art. But what can it tell us?

I found this quote to be absolutely beautiful. It’s a tragedy to be singed and scarred. It’s another to wonder if things could’ve been different if given another chance.
PLEASE DON’T SETTLE! That’s all I’m going to say on that one. :^)

You make up one half of a relationship and should therefore be equally valued within it. Your opinions, ideas, knowledge, and consent matter. If they are reluctant to hear it or act with intentional disregard, that isn’t love.

Simon Update

Here’s a Simon update! He’s the main character of my story, Guildies. He’s a member of the Mercenaries Guild Conglomerate, and he’s sent to watch this interesting house in Sutton, Michigan. I wanted to do more full-body posing, and work on his collar. I like how I did the collar as well as the rips on his clothes. I used zig-zags instead of something more complicated for his coat, and I think that worked well. I also modified his eye shape to make it easer to draw.

Industrious Illustrating #29 – Early Drafts

Welcome back to another week of Industrious Illustrating! First off, I’m happy to share that my drawing of Tappan Hall on the upper right of this picture was on display at the art-themed UMix last friday in the Michigan Union. I’m planning on making more illustrations of UMich campus locales in the future in the same style!

Additionally, I’ve been making sketches and drafts for some new sprites that’ll be used in “Flamechaser” when the prologue and additional scenes are added into the game. I also sketched out a new UI design idea (larger sprites) for the game, which will be implemented in the upcoming 0.6 build of the game. Quick concept ideation like this is helpful for getting feedback from other people on the project and figuring out what I want to do with the final drawing before I commit too hard to developing the concept further.

Let me know in the comments if there’s any topics you want me to discuss or expand upon for future Industrious Illustrating posts!
